I will answer a question that I know has been on everyones mind. "Emily, is everyone in your family as good looking as you?" My answer is yes :) This gorgeous gal is my cousin Trina! We did day one of her senior session today and I couldn't be happier with the results. Spring has Sprung! Forgive the cliche quote but it's true! The days of layering on clothing and seeing your breath in the morning are finally over, so pack away your ice scrapers and clunky boots and bust out your sandals. Today, I was looking for some inspiration and I noticed that the trees and bushes are all beginning to bud. There's something so magical about the process of plant growth (is that nerdy to say?). Whenever I see it, I think of being reborn. This is the time of year we should forget everything that is troubling us and just let it be (man, I'm just full of cliche things to say today). Spring is a time of happiness and growth. If we sit and dwell on the past, the beauty that surrounds us will just pass by. Here are a few photos I took in my back yard of some bushes, my sister and some lawn ornaments. Enjoy this wonderful weather everyone! :)

I recently took a vacation to the lovely state of Florida! I love family vacations and definitely needed one I hadn't had a day off work in over 3 weeks, I was going crazy! It was so nice to sit and relax by the pool, listening to music, and reading a good book. We couldn't have asked for better weather. I even got meet up with my cousin Josh! So (almost) every year the Minnesota River floods causing the 101 bridge to be closed and shear pandemonium to anyone that lives close. This year I went down and took some pictures right at sunset and it was simply gorgeous! However , I was so wrapped up in all the beauty that I actually completely forgot to document the actual flood! You will just have to trust me when I say it was bad haha. Hello everyone! PLEASE do not look at when my last blog post was and compare the date to this one. I have been falling a little behind...ok, A LOT behind. I feel terrible! Really I do! I have been so busy with work and life and all that fun stuff but Im going to try my hardest to start blogging again ( I think I have said that before but bare with me guys!)

Anyways, it's new year and I have a whole new outlook on my life and my business. Check out the new website www.emilyisakson.com I finally got around to updating it! I even got a new song. Beware its really catchy! I am so excited for this summer and can't wait to get back out there and take some pictures! I have been neglecting my poor camera lately and I have no idea why! No worries though, I have lots of new things to share with you guys so stay posted!

If any of you guys fall into rut like I did and need some inspiration check out a few of my favorite blogs. I am fortunate enough to actually know these talented artists and I love looking at their new work and I know you will too!

First we have Mary and Scott at Float Away Studios I went to school with Mary and she has such incredible talent. Scoot does the videography, every time I see one of his videos I cant help but smile. They are truly fantastic at what they do and I can't wait to get married so I can have them capture my special day. Don't forget to check out STOPtheMotion Friday! They are cute little videos featuring Scott and Mary and they are a great way to start or end your day with a smile :)

Secondly we have Ashley Sturm Photography I also went to photography school with Ashley! She has a way of capturing her subjects in the perfect way. Especially babies and seniors. She's actually planning her wedding right now and she's sharing her plans on her blog! She is so creative and I love the way she runs her business. Can't wait to see what she has in store for us in the future!

Thirdly we have Bethany and Ryan of Joy Wedding Photography I went to school with both of them as well! They are seriously one of the cutest couples I have ever seen and what they do with their cameras is truly amazing! Bethany also has a blog that features, well to put it simply, pretty things! She has such a talent for capturing everyday objects like eggs and muffins and making them look fantastic! I can't wait for her cook book!

Hopefully all of these blogs and websites make you smile as much as they make me smile! I am so lucky to know all these fantastic photographers. They are what keeps me going! I started a new mini blog called Simply Emily I I will just be posting photographs taken from my iPhone and other inspirations I have in my life. Check it out! I am also going to try and post some more people that inspire me once a week on this blog because everyone needs a little pick me up once in a while! Well, it has been a while since my last post! But I swear it was not my fault this time. Outside forces intervened for I was the proud owner of a nice nasty eye infection! I do not think I have ever been as miserable as I was last week. I was confined to the darkness of my bedroom for days on end with nothing to do but think of how I would look with an eye patch (quite good I might add). While I wasn't in the dungeon (my bedroom) I was shielding my face from the blinding sunlight on the way to eye doctor. My mother had to help me walk and find chairs and tell me when I was about to face plant on the curb. It was awful. After some wicked intense eye drops and lots of sleep, I could finally open the darn thing! Now, we fast forward to today. I can actually look at my computer without feeling like my eyes are liquifying out of their sockets. My vision isn't completely back but at least I don't look like I'm on drugs anymore! And how many people can say they have a permanent scar on their eyeball?? Oh yea..I'm just that awesome.

I would have taken an actual picture of my eye but I do not want any of you to vomit on your computers. So, I thought since I am such a gifted artist, I would draw what I looked like. I know most of you think this is an actual photograph, but its not! Promise. I drew this with my own two hands. Pretty good for a chick with a bum eye eh?

Well, I finally did it! I went to Chicago! I went with one of my best friends from higschool for a long weekend full of fun! We took the "megabus" from Minneapolis right to Chi-Town. We stayed with one of her friends from school and had a blast! I can definitely see myself living there one day. Hopefully soon! It was really hard to fit everything inot a four day trip but we did the best we could! We got to go the Shedd Aquarium (amazing!), take a boat tour (breath taking), go to Navy Pier (crazy!) and walk all around the beautiful city! My feet still have blisters since I chose to go with more fashionable footwear vs sneakers. Beauty is pain! haha I could not even narrow down my favorite pictures from the trip. So take a peek and enjoy! And if anyone wants to go down there its only $35 round trip! :)

So after watching movie trailers on Apple for about an hour (there are some really good ones coming out!) I started going through some photos on my Personal/Random section of my hard drive, and I came across these! I can not believe I forgot to put these up! This little white creature is Liem. He is my cousin Sam's dog. I am at a loss of words for what to say about him. He is easily the most odd animal I have ever encountered. For some reason his right eye blinks before the left, he could use some dental work (do they make braces for dogs?), he steals toys from children, and he bites himself a lot. I pretend not to like him, but we secretly cuddle when Sam falls asleep :) So here are a few photos I snapped while we were playing outside. Enjoy!

Oh, and I thought this would add to the strangeness: While doing these photos, I used grass as his "treatie" so he would look at me. After I got the shots I wanted, I threw the grass back in the lawn. He then proceeded to eat it. Enough said.

Well I FINALLY got a little vacation this past weekend up at "the lake". I really wish I could have stayed longer but I had a blast for the few days I was there. It was just as I remembered. French toast smell in the morning, fruit salad with dinner, reading books by the dock, watching all the aunties play Scrabble and of course our annual Survivor tournament. All of us cousins got split into two teams and we had to complete various events such as riddle solving, and obstacle course, and building a fire just to name a few. (I will post pictures from that later!) My team won (of course, I was on it haha). Out newest obsession this year was a game called Banagrams. If you have never heard of it, I suggest you go out and but it. It will change your life forever. I didn't take near as many pictures as I wanted to but I think I still got some fun ones. Enjoy!!

Hey there! As you might have read in my previous post, these two adorable people are Trevor and Lorali. You may have also read that Trevor was my former 8th grade teacher! I still can not get over the fact that I saw him kiss a girl! Ahh! I thought teachers all lived at the school together and they only came out on certain occasions. Who would have thought that they had normal lives and that they actually fall in love?! If you think its awkward seeing your former (or current) teacher at Target or the grocery store, you haven't seen anything yet! Haha, ok all kidding and jokes aside, this was one of my favorite sessions to date. Just seeing two people interact with each other they way that they did was inspiring. I barely had to even pose them! They are just that cute by themselves. Every photographers dream! I am so excited for their wedding this September. Well folks, here it is. My first "series" called Morning Hair. I feel like I have officially arrived in the photography world haha. For the past few mornings I have noticed how wild my hair has been. And every morning, it gets stranger and stranger. So, I thought to myself, why not share how glorious I look in the mornings with the world. My goal is to take at least 4 or 5 pictures a week of how ridiculous my hair looks. I swear, I will not try to make it look crazier or clean up my face, or anything like that. I had so much fun at this wedding and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect couple! They were rooting for me the whole time and made me feel so confident in my skills. Also, a big thanks to my girl Amy Zellmer for teaching me the ropes of wedding photography! I am so glad I got to assist with her. It really helped me prepare for this wedding. Here is yet another post about my furry little best friend/sister, Cleo. I took these pictures a while ago and just realized I forgot to put them up here! Shocking, I know. Usually I'm quite on top of these things. Especially when Cleo is involved. Oh well, no worries. They are up now! So this was the first day Cleo discovered the joys of a frisbee. She is generally very scared of toys bigger than tennis balls, but being in a particularly frisky mood, she gave the frisbee a chance. Turns out, frisbees are very fun, although a little challenging to pick up from the pavement. Cleo have pretty much destroyed that frisbee since then, but I am very glad that she is broadening her horizons to the joy of new toys! ( sorry I am so weird haha ) Here are a few of my favorites from our little session :D

So today was one of the most perfect days ever. Sam, my cousin/best friend, and I made the journey to Lake Calhoun for the day. I could not have asked for a better day to go! You always forget how beautiful a place is until you see it again. Everyone is so alive and laid back out there. I want to live there one day when I am a millionaire :D While waiting for our friend Steve, Sam and I had a little photo session under the shade of The Big Oak Tree ( I have no idea if it was an oak tree but it sounds cool right? ) and here are the results. Its pretty hard to hold my boat of a camera steady so we had to use our awesome teamwork skills to pul it off! I think we did pretty good! Here are some of my favorites from the day. While working at Custom Creations Photography (check out the site! Amy Zellmer, the photographer, rocks!) I helped assist at many weddings, but I have never done one my own. That all changed when Erin called me up one day! You may remember Erin from the Wermerskirchen family photos I did a while back, but if you do not, she is the older sister of one of my best friends Kaitlin. I have known her my whole life! Alright, back to the story. So Erin calls me up and says she is getting married and she wants me to do her wedding photos! I was honored and of course I accepted! These pictures below are some of my favorites from their engagement session! I had so much fun with these two! And now, their wedding is less than seven days away!!! So as some of you may or may not know, I recently joined a group called the St. Paul Photographers Cooperative. I think it was one of the best decisions I have made this year! We all share an amazing studio right by the river in St. Paul and all the members are fantastic people! I'm so glad they invited me to become a member and honored to be included. Within the group we started doing creative meetings. The leaders of the meeting assigned us all creative projects that we will eventually display in an art show later this year. I decided to to my project on my sassy little sister Abby! She fascinates me and I think she stunning! She's a dancer, hockey player, baritone player, singer, artist, genus, fashionista, and drama queen. Even though we fight like cats and dogs and mix like oil and water I cant help but love those big green eyes and buck teeth (sorry abs!). Another reason is because I think it would be something really fun to have when she gets older. Something to show her friends in high school, and college and even...gulp...a husband?? Yikes..scary thought..OK back on track Emily...Soo here are a few recent images I done of her. We fought during every one of these oh so sweet photo sessions but I think I got what I was looking for. I have also had the recent fascinations with cutting her head off in pictures. I'm doing the for creative purposes people! I'm not living out fantasies here! Enjoy :)

p.s. If you have little siblings, cousins, anyone you love I recommend doing a project like this. It's a lot of fun and what an awesome thing to look back on.

Passion Play 2009

My church puts on a Passion Play every year right before Easter, when a friend of the family asked if I would come photograph it I was thrilled! For those of you who do not know, the Passion Play depicts all of the stations of the cross leading up to Resurrection of Jesus Christ. My church does this play every year and they have even taken it on the road a few times! Sadly, this was my first year going! I was so blown away by how stunning it was! They don't call it a PASSION play for nothin! Every single actor gave all of their emotions and then some. I felt like I was there all those thousands of years ago. And the choir was fantastic. Their haunting melodies filled the whole play with emotion and passion. It was definitely a challenge though! All I had to work with was a few stage lights! And they were mostly red and yellow! yikes. Needless to say, I had my work cut out for me that night! One nice thing is that the actors depict the scenes with no dialogue or movement. They just freeze the scene while a narrator tells the audience whats going on! I am so glad I could photograph this event and I will definitely make this play a yearly occurrence in my life from now on. Good job to all the actors, directors, make up artists, costumers, lighting and sound people and last but not least, the choir. You all did fantastic!! Sunny Sunset

So , I was out driving a few days ago and while sitting at a stop light I noticed how stunning the sky looked! And of course, Like most moments, I didn't have my camera with me! I was about 15 minutes away from home, but I knew I HAD to take a picture of it. So, I raced like a bat out of hell to get home and grab my stinking camera! I raced inside and almost fell down the stairs but I got it. I drove like crazy again but I could see the sun setting before my eyes. I was nervous that it would go down before I got back out to the field! As a approached the long stretch of road by the field I looked to my left and there it was. The most beautiful sunset ever. I scrambled out of my car and started snapping. Then I heard the familiar sound a geese and BAM there they were. It seemed like millions of them flying in front of the sun. It couldn't have been a more perfect moment. So what if I broke a few laws (and almost my legs!) to get it. It was all worth it! ( This is sized to a 10x30, thats why it might looks a little weird!)

Is it wrong to be in love with an animal?

I have recently come to the conclusion that I am in love with my dog Cleo. She is my life. I mean look at her people! Tell me she doesn't melt your heart! Those big brown eyes, that little mohawk on her head, those perky ears! Uh she is adorable! I think of her as more of a sister than a pet. Sometimes I even like her better than my sister! Just kidding (kind of ). And I know she doesn't like when I dress her in clothes but I make it worth her time. Don't worry. So wether we are sharing a cream cheese bagel or watching Harry Potter, I love her more than anything. In conclusion, if being in love with a dog is wrong, I don't want to be right!

p.s I swear I will have some pictures of actual people up here soon but for now, you will have to settle with pictures of various canines :)

Meet George!

Everyone, I would like to formally introduce you to George. I recently lived at my Grandma's house for two weeks while she was in Florida to watch her little Georgie. He is by far the most interesting little creature I have ever come by. Cute, but interesting. There were numerous times I would walk in the door and he would be laying on the dining room table or eating my underwear and even attacking his dog bed. He dances for his food and prances like a deer through the snow. He is all around a strange but lovable dog. And I had a great time with him over those 14 days. He caused many laughs, a little frustration, and even a few "GEORGE! What the Heck!" moments but I just cant help but love that little face :)

Winter Magic

I have found myself complaining about winter quite frequently this year. It's always "I'm too cold" or "ugh I HATE all of this ice!", but the morning after a recent ice storm I realized how truly beautiful winter can be! I was on my way to work when I just stopped in my tracks and looked around. It was so gorgeous out! I ran back inside and grabbed my camera and went to work. I trudged through two feet of snow and laid on the ground to get that perfect shot. And not once did I complain about the cold or snow. Although I wish it was 75 and sunny, I finally really appreciated all the beauty winter brings.

My dog hates me..

So this year my dad and I came up with an idea to make Christmas cards for my dog to give to all of her dog friends. So I went up to Target and low and behold, there it was. A Mrs. Claus outfit for dogs. I bought it on the spot and brought it home. After putting it on Cleo with a little force, and seeing the look in her eyes, I knew this would be a memorable card for everyone. I am convinced my Dog likes when I dress her up, but now I'm not so sure! Hey at least I didn't buy the matching dog wig! So merry freakin Christmas from my family to yours :)

High Fashion, LOW HEAT!!

Meet Gabe and Tayzha! Tayzha has been my partner in crime and fun for quite some time now and we both realized that we had never done a photo shoot! And since it was so close to the Holiday Season, we decided to do a shoot with her boyfriend Gabe and her to make some christmas cards. So I went over to their house two hours early to help Tayzha carefully plan each outfit and her hair and then we were off! We decided to head over to St. Paul so we could get an urban look to the photos. I had SO much fun doing this shoot that it may have to be an every season occurrence! They both were amazing! We were FREEZING our butts off but it was so worth it! Here are some (ok, a lot) of my favorite shots from the session! Yhanks again you two for letting me get my "ok, one more shot"s in!

Megan and Matt

Megan, Kaitlin's older sister, brought her boyfriend Matt along for the Wermerskirchen's family session. She just wanted me to grab a few shots of them together but I could photograph them all day! My favorite person to photograph is my little sister Abby. She is so photogenic and knows exactly how to pose. I think she is so gorgeous! She is only ten, but look how she works that face! While I was attending school out East, one of my favorite teachers from high school, Mrs. Beran, had a baby! Mrs Beran is too cute so I knew that I just HAD to photograph her new baby. It has been waaaaay to long since my last blog post. Wow, im not starting off to good! So, I will just get right into it. Over the summer I had the opportunity to photograph Sammie's Sr. pictures. She is so beautiful! We did it over two days on her grandparents' farm. The weather was perfect, the light was amazing, the model was stunning. What more can a photographer ask for!? Life at "The Cabin"

The RNC is now in Minneapolis and along with them came in article in the Star Tribune. The article stated things that people should know about Minnesotans before they come and stay here. One pointer I found amusing was the one that said everyone in Minnesota refers to their cabin as "the cabin" and anywhere north of the Minneapolis/St.Paul Area is considered "up north"

The funny thing is, its completely true. I always refer to our cabin as "the cabin" and I use the saying "up north" when describing a vacation.

I love going up to our cabin. My family is very important to me and I have unlimited memories up there. From tubing and wakeboarding to Scrabble tournaments and campfire songs. My family is what keeps me going. And the pictures I take remind me of how special all of those memories are to me. I hope everyone experiences the feelings I got when I photographed my sister water skiing for the first time, or the warmness a glorious sunset brings. I love "the cabin" and I love Minnesota Summers. They will forever hold a place in my heart. Here are some highlights from this summer! Enjoy! xoxo

Welcome to My Life

Hello ladies and gentlemen. Well I did it. I finally joined the ever growing world of blogging. Two years ago, I did not even know that world existed. However, while attending the Hallmark Institute of Photography, I encountered many people who had the foreign "blogs" and it sparked my interest. One of my good friends, Jessi Hebert, sucked me into her life through her blog and they way she wrote about her life and thoughts mesmerized me and inspired me to make one myself. I have been putting if off until now, but im ready. Bare with me, Im new to this whole thing, but I hope to update it at least once a week! I miss everyone from school so much and I hope this is a way to let them all know what I have been doing when I dont always have time to call or Email.
